About the Photographer

Guelph based Photographer and Photojournalist Kyle Rodriguez believes that everyone is the protagonist in their own life story, and that tale can be told with pictures. He strives to bring out the epic and mythical moments in everyday life, be it in wedding photography, news, sports, portraits, or commercial work.

Kyle took the long way to embarking on his profession, but there were signs of interest early on. Fascinated by cameras as a kid, he would end up being the one taking pictures in his group of friends growing up in Toronto.

He got his first real SLR camera in his second year at Trent University - a 1970's 35mm Pentax Spotmatic II from a friend's father in trade for a bottle of scotch, and immediately began shooting images around Peterborough, Ontario.

Best trade ever.

After completing an Honors BA in Political Studies and English at Trent, followed by another Honors  BA in Philosophy, Kyle worked on his Masters in Political Science at the University of Guelph before taking some time to travel across Europe, and India, where he made some of his favorite images.

Eventually settling in Guelph, Kyle started working with the University of Guelph's department of Athletics, and freelancing for local newspapers the Guelph Mercury and the Guelph Tribune.  He began shooting for Canadian Press Images in 2006, covering the Guelph, Kitchener-Waterloo, and Hamilton area, and the following year he was named the first instructor of the photojournalism component of the University of Guelph's new Diploma in Agricultural Communications.  Kyle also served as the Guelph Civic Museum's archival photographer and digital imaging specialist.

He spent the winter of 2014 as Director of Photography on the independent feature film "Y2Kameron", which is currently in post-production. In 2015 he began teaching "Intro To Photojournalism," a course he developed as a part-time faculty member of Conestoga College's Photography Diploma program at the Kitchener Doon Campus.

That year also brought a life's highlight when he was presented with a 2015 Yates Cup Championship ring for his role as the Gryphon Football photographer.

"I hope my formal schooling and real-world experience come together to help people to relate one another, and identify meaningful moments in our everyday life. I look for ways to frame those moments beautifully and truthfully, making an image that is important to the viewer now, and for years to come..."

Something you can treasure as an artifact for life.
